Successful Freelancing Projects
Online freelance writing is becoming more and more competitive. With the advent of article marketing directories, easy to install and use blogging, professional freelance writers no longer have an edge in the marketplace. This does not mean that you need to lower your rates, it means you need to market yourself better. If you actively work in online freelance writing, touting successful freelancing projects can be difficult – so how do you market them?
Rule number one: Before you launch an online freelance writing gig and settle on a rate, talk to your client. Let them know that you depend on your writing portfolio to get additional work. If they are willing to offer you a by-line that is perfect. If not, charge them a higher rate. If they try to negotiate the rates, advise them that by offering a by-line they could get a slightly lower rate.
Rule number two: Make sure your work is perfect. Do not leave any doubt that the work you produce consistently is done properly the first time. Many online freelance writing jobs are available through small businesses. The thing to remember is that these small businesses are generally in contact with other small business owners. They could be the source of your next successful freelancing project.
Rule number three: Ask for references or testimonials when you complete a successful freelancing project. If your work is mostly obtained through an online freelance site, chances are they allow for feedback. Do not be shy about reminding a client that you have finished a successful freelancing project and expect them to leave feedback. Just remember to be careful what you ask for! You want honest feedback from your clients but if you know that your work was less than ideal, be prepared for that possibility.
Rule number four: For the most part, your marketing plan lies firmly in your lap.It is up to you to tout your skills and why your rates are justified. Most people who are advertising online freelance writing jobs are certainly watching their bottom line, and this is necessary. However, that does not mean that you should work for below what you are worth.
Summary
It is always a thrill to have a successful freelancing project. Being able to use that project to secure additional online freelance writing opportunities is even more thrilling. Remember that you need to market your skills and the best way to do this is by highlighting your successful freelancing projects.
